MEE6 vs Dyno vs Carl-bot vs MagnificBot: Which to Choose?

MEE6, Dyno and Carl-bot have been staples of Discord for years, and all three are good at what they do. MagnificBot is the newer, all-in-one option. Rather than declaring a winner, this comparison helps you match a bot to your server's real needs.

A quick note on honesty: bots change their features and plans regularly. We describe what each one is generally known for and what to verify, but we do not quote competitor prices or limits. Always check each bot's current plans on its own website before you decide.

How to read this comparison

Most servers need a handful of things from a bot: moderation, some automatic filtering, a way to keep members engaged and, increasingly, support tickets and announcements. We grouped the comparison into those categories and asked the same question each time: what should you check, and what does MagnificBot include?

Where each bot tends to shine

  • MEE6 is known for being approachable. Its leveling system is probably the most recognised on Discord, and the setup flow is friendly for first-time server owners.
  • Dyno has a long track record as a moderation bot, with automod and a web dashboard that many staff teams know well.
  • Carl-bot is popular for reaction roles and flexible configuration, and it is a common pick for servers that like fine-grained control over logging and roles.
  • MagnificBot aims to replace several bots at once: 16 modules, all included in its free plan, managed from one web dashboard in five languages.

Each of these bots offers a paid tier, and some features or higher limits depend on it. That is normal, but it means "free" means something different for each one.

Feature-by-feature comparison

Category What to check in any bot MagnificBot
Moderation Case history, notes, temporary bans, escalation Warn, timeout, kick, ban, temp bans, purge, cases, notes, automatic escalation; manual Discord sanctions logged as cases
AutoMod Which filters exist and how they punish Spam, invites, links, caps, mass mentions, banned words
Logging Which events are logged, dashboard audit Messages, members, moderation, server and voice logs, plus a dashboard audit log
Levels Text vs voice XP, role rewards Text and voice XP, role rewards, /rank, /leaderboard
Roles Buttons, menus or emoji reactions Role panels with buttons or a select menu
Tickets Panels, staff roles, transcripts Panels with typed buttons, staff roles per type, optional form, HTML transcripts, ratings
Automations Triggers and actions without code 13 triggers, 11 conditions, 12 actions, templates
Temp voice Join-to-create, owner controls Creator channels, 15-button control panel, /voice
Alerts Platforms supported, custom messages Twitch, Kick, YouTube lives and uploads, RSS feeds, role mentions
Dashboard Visual editors, staff access Web dashboard, access roles for staff without Discord permissions

Use the middle column as your checklist when you look at MEE6, Dyno or Carl-bot. If a feature you need is on their paid tier, factor that into the cost.

Where MagnificBot is not the right fit

Being honest about gaps saves you a migration you would regret. MagnificBot has no music, no virtual economy and no custom commands written in code. Its no-code automations cover many classic custom-command uses (auto-replies, adding roles, sending DMs), but if your community runs on a scripting system, a bot built around custom commands will suit you better.

The free plan also has trade-offs: one of each limited item per server (for example one automation or one active giveaway), 25 MB of uploads and a promotional message from the bot every 8 to 16 hours in your most active channel. Premium (US$4.99/month, 3 servers) removes the promo message and raises limits about tenfold. See pricing for details.

Which bot should you choose?

There is no universal answer, but these rules of thumb help:

  • You only want levels and a welcome message and like a very guided setup: MEE6 is a reasonable choice; check which parts are free today.
  • Your priority is moderation with a familiar dashboard: Dyno is a long-standing option worth testing.
  • You want granular reaction roles and logging and do not mind detailed configuration: Carl-bot is a solid candidate.
  • You are running three or more bots (levels, tickets, temp voice, alerts) and want one dashboard for everything: MagnificBot is designed for exactly that. Our guide to replacing multiple Discord bots with one shows how the modules map.

A practical tip: test on a small staging server first. Invite the candidate, recreate your three most important features and see how long it takes. Setup time and clarity tell you more than any feature list.

If you are coming from MEE6 specifically, read our guide to the best free MEE6 alternative, which includes a step-by-step migration. And whichever bot you pick, check its permissions: a well-built bot does not need Administrator. MagnificBot's invite, for example, asks only for specific permissions.

FAQ

Is MagnificBot better than MEE6, Dyno or Carl-bot?

It depends on your server. MagnificBot's strength is covering many needs in one free bot; the others have years of polish in their core areas.

Can I run MagnificBot alongside Dyno or Carl-bot?

Yes. Just avoid enabling the same feature in two bots, such as two welcome messages or two AutoMod setups.

Where can I check current prices for the other bots?

On each bot's official website. Plans change, so we do not list them here.

Which bot has the best free plan?

"Best" depends on which features you need for free. Compare the categories above against each bot's current free tier.
