Free Giveaway Bot for Discord: Features That Actually Matter

Giveaways are one of the quickest ways to wake up a quiet server. They are also one of the quickest ways to annoy people when they go wrong: the winner left months ago, alt accounts swept the prize, or nobody can tell whether the draw was fair. A good giveaway bot is less about flashy embeds and more about the boring details that keep things honest.

Here is what to look for, how MagnificBot handles each point, and when a dedicated giveaway bot might still suit you better.

The feature checklist

Before installing anything, check whether the bot covers these basics:

  1. Button entry. A "join" button is clearer than reacting with an emoji, and the bot can answer the person privately if they are not eligible.
  2. Role requirements. Limiting entry to a role (members who verified, reached a level or boosted) is the simplest anti-abuse tool you have.
  3. Multiple winners. Big prizes are often split, and drawing three winners in one go is fairer than running three separate giveaways.
  4. Automatic ending. The draw should happen on time even if the host is asleep.
  5. Rerolls. If a winner does not answer or breaks the rules, you need a quick, visible way to draw again.
  6. Manual control. Ending early or cancelling should be one click, not a support request.
  7. Optional ping role. People who opted in to giveaway news can be notified without pinging everyone.

How a giveaway runs in MagnificBot

The Giveaways module is part of the free plan. You can start a giveaway from the dashboard or with one command:

/giveaway start prize:"Steam gift card" duration:3d winners:2 required_role:@Verified
  • prize and duration are required; winners goes from 1 to 20; required_role and a short description are optional.
  • The bot posts an embed with an entry button. Members without the required role get a reply only they can see, telling them which role they need, so the channel stays clean.
  • When the time is up, the bot draws the winners and announces them automatically, and it can ping a giveaway role you choose in the module settings.
  • /giveaway end closes a giveaway early and /giveaway reroll draws again, both using the giveaway ID. The same actions, plus cancelling, are available on the dashboard's Giveaways page.

That covers the full checklist above without a separate bot.

Making giveaways fair: a practical playbook

The tools only help if you combine them well. These combinations work on most servers:

Tie entry to activity, not just presence

Give a role as a level reward (for example at level 5) in the Levels module, then use that role as the giveaway requirement. People who joined five minutes ago for the prize cannot enter, while regular members can. XP has a cooldown between rewarded messages, so spamming to qualify is slow.

Filter brand-new accounts

Create an automation: when a member joins, if their account is older than a set number of days, add a "Verified" role. Use that role as the requirement. Fresh throwaway accounts never get it automatically, and staff can still grant it by hand to genuine newcomers.

Publish the rules with the giveaway

Use the description to state how winners are contacted and how long they have to answer, such as 24 hours. When you need to reroll, nobody can say it came out of nowhere.

Reroll in public

Run the reroll in the same channel so the new winner is announced where everyone saw the original draw. Transparency matters more than the prize.

Keep a short record

Note who won and when. A pinned message or a staff channel thread is enough to spot the same person winning suspiciously often.

Dedicated giveaway bot or all-in-one?

Dedicated giveaway bots are popular for good reasons. They focus on one job, are often very simple to use, and some offer extra options such as bonus entries or more complex requirement rules. If giveaways are the heart of your server and you need those advanced options, a specialist bot may fit better; check its current features and plans on its own website.

An all-in-one bot makes sense when giveaways are one activity among many. The requirement role can come from your leveling system, the account-age check from your automations, and the announcement from the same bot that welcomes members, so there is one fewer bot asking for permissions. If you are weighing that trade-off across your whole bot stack, read how to replace several Discord bots with one.

Plan limits worth knowing

The free plan has a starter limit on how many giveaways can be active at once per server. Once one ends, you can start the next. Premium (US$4.99/month) raises that limit, which helps if you run several at once during events. The free plan also includes a short promotional message from the bot every 8 to 16 hours; Premium removes it. Compare plans on the pricing page.

FAQ

How many winners can one giveaway have?

Between 1 and 20. For more, split the prize into separate giveaways.

Can I require more than one role?

Each giveaway accepts one required role. To combine conditions, use an automation that grants a single "eligible" role when members meet them.

What happens if a winner left the server?

Use /giveaway reroll with the giveaway ID, or the reroll button on the dashboard, to draw a replacement.

Can members see why they cannot enter?

Yes. If they lack the required role, the bot answers with a message only they can see, naming the role they need.
