The Best Free MEE6 Alternative in 2026 (Honest Guide)

MEE6 is one of the best-known Discord bots, and for good reason: it is easy to add, its web dashboard is friendly and its leveling system turned "reaching the next level" into a habit for a lot of communities. So why do so many server owners end up searching for an alternative?
Why people look for a MEE6 alternative
It is rarely because MEE6 is bad. The reasons usually come down to three things:
- Budget. Like many popular bots, MEE6 offers a paid subscription, and some features or limits depend on it. Plans change, so check MEE6's current pricing before deciding. For a hobby server, though, every monthly fee counts.
- Bot sprawl. Plenty of servers run MEE6 for levels, another bot for tickets, another for temporary voice channels and another for stream alerts. Each one wants permissions, its own dashboard and its own learning curve.
- Control. Some owners want to manage more of the server itself (channels, roles, permissions, backups) from the same place where they configure the bot.
If that sounds familiar, the useful question is not "which bot is the best?" but "which bot covers what my server actually uses, at a price I am comfortable with?"
What to look for in a free alternative
Before installing anything, write down what you use today. Then judge any candidate against this checklist:
- Parity for the features you use. Levels, welcome messages, moderation and self-assignable roles are the usual core.
- A real web dashboard. Slash commands work, but a visual editor with a preview saves time and mistakes.
- Reasonable permissions. A bot should not need Administrator to do its job. Least privilege limits the damage if something ever goes wrong.
- Transparent limits. "Free" should mean you know exactly what is capped and what the bot does in return.
- Languages. If your staff or members speak different languages, a localised bot and dashboard help.
How MagnificBot covers the MEE6 basics
MagnificBot is an all-in-one Discord bot with a web dashboard at app.magnificbot.com. You log in with Discord, pick your server and configure everything visually. All 16 modules are included in the free plan. This is how the features most MEE6 users rely on map across:
| What you use today | Where it lives in MagnificBot |
|---|---|
| Levels and XP | Levels: XP for text and voice, role rewards, /rank and /leaderboard |
| Welcome messages | Welcome & farewell: embeds, banner or GIF, colours, optional DM |
| Moderation commands | /warn, /timeout, /kick, /ban, temporary bans, /purge, cases and notes |
| Auto-moderation | AutoMod: spam, invites, links, caps, mass mentions, banned words |
| Reaction roles | Role panels with buttons or a select menu |
| Stream alerts | Twitch, Kick and YouTube lives, new YouTube videos and RSS feeds |
On top of that you get modules many servers would otherwise add separate bots for: tickets with HTML transcripts, temporary voice channels, giveaways, polls, a message builder with scheduled posts, no-code automations, statistics and a server manager for channels, roles and backups. The bot and dashboard speak English, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese.
Two details matter for moderation teams. Warnings can escalate automatically, so repeat offenders get a timeout without anyone having to remember it. And bans or timeouts applied by hand through Discord itself are also recorded as cases, so your history stays complete even when a moderator skips the bot.
The honest part: what "free" means here
Every free plan has a trade-off, and you should know it before switching:
- One of each limited item per server, for example one automation, one panel and one active giveaway at a time. For most small and medium servers that covers the essentials.
- 25 MB of uploads for images and videos you use in the dashboard.
- A promotional message. On the free plan the bot posts its own promo message every 8 to 16 hours in your most active channel. That is how the free tier is funded.
- No card and no expiry. You never enter payment details and the plan does not time out.
If the promo message or the limits get in the way, Premium costs US$4.99/month, raises limits roughly tenfold, removes the promotional messages and covers 3 servers. Pro (US$14.99/month) goes further and covers 5 servers. Payments go through Stripe and you can cancel at any time. Details are in the pricing section.
It is also fair to say what MagnificBot does not do: no music, no virtual economy or currency, and no coded custom commands (automations cover many of those cases without code). If your server depends on one of those, keep a dedicated bot for it.
How to migrate from MEE6 in six steps
- Audit your setup. Take screenshots of your welcome message, level rewards and moderation settings so you can recreate them.
- Invite MagnificBot from magnificbot.com. It does not ask for Administrator.
- Move the bot's role above the roles it must hand out (level rewards, role panels), or Discord will block it.
- Rebuild the core first: welcome message, level role rewards and AutoMod filters.
- Run both bots for a short while, with overlapping features switched off in MEE6 so members do not get two welcome messages or two level-up announcements.
- Announce the change and remove MEE6 once everything works.
MagnificBot does not import MEE6 data automatically, so decide in advance how to treat existing levels. Staff can restore a member's level by hand with /xp setlevel, which also applies the matching reward roles; that works well for your most active members.

FAQ
Is MagnificBot really free?
Yes. Every module is included in the free plan, with no card and no expiry. The trade-offs are the per-server limits and a promotional message every 8 to 16 hours.
Can I import my MEE6 levels?
Not automatically, because XP lives in each bot's own database. Staff can set levels manually with /xp setlevel.
Does MagnificBot need Administrator permission?
No. The invite asks only for specific permissions, which is safer for your server.
Can I keep MEE6 for some things?
Yes. Running two bots during a transition is common. Just switch off overlapping features to avoid duplicate messages.
